About the real test
The CDA exam has 65 questions (60 standard, 5 scenario-based with photos) covering all 13 Functional Areas grouped under 6 CDA Competency Standards, from Safe and Healthy environments through Professionalism. It's a broad, applied test, not a memorization test, most questions ask what you'd actually do in a classroom situation.
13 Functional Areas, 6 Competency Standards
Standard II (Physical, Cognitive, Communicative, Creative) covers the most ground, 4 of the 13 Functional Areas. Make sure you're not just focused on guidance and safety.
Most questions are scenario-based, not definitions
You won't be asked to define "scaffolding", you'll be asked what a caregiver should do in a specific situation. Practice applying the concepts, not memorizing terms.
Positive guidance shows up constantly
Standard III (Guidance) questions almost always test positive, non-punitive responses, redirection, staying calm, naming emotions. If an answer sounds punitive, it's wrong.
