About the PANCE

The PANCE, developed by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), is the national certifying exam required to become a certified physician assistant in the U.S. It tests clinical knowledge across every major organ system, crossed with clinical tasks like diagnosis, treatment, and health maintenance.

Scope note: This test covers PANCE exam content only. State licensure, which you apply for separately after NCCPA certification, is an administrative process handled by your state medical board and is not covered here.

Why Practice Before the Test

The PANCE covers an enormous breadth of clinical medicine across every organ system in a single testing day. Practising realistic multiple-choice questions with full explanations builds the clinical pattern-recognition and recall speed you need, especially for the cardiovascular and pulmonary questions that carry significant weight on the real exam.

How to Prepare for the PANCE Exam

About the real test

The PANCE tests physician assistant candidates across body systems, cardiovascular, pulmonary, musculoskeletal, neurology, and more, organized around the clinical tasks PAs perform: history and physical, diagnostic studies, diagnosis, and management.

Things that make the biggest difference

Cardiovascular and pulmonary content consistently carry the heaviest weight

These two systems are tested more than any other individual body system on the blueprint. Strong foundational knowledge here pays off across a large share of the exam.

Questions are organized by clinical task, not just by system

Within each body system, you'll see questions on history-taking, diagnostic interpretation, diagnosis, and treatment planning. Practice thinking through the full clinical reasoning process, not just recalling facts.

Health maintenance and pharmacology questions run across every system

Preventive care guidelines and medication knowledge aren't isolated to their own categories, they show up embedded within cardiovascular, endocrine, and other system-specific questions.

Why TestReadyUSA works for the PANCE Exam

TestReadyUSA's PANCE practice covers all major body systems in the same proportions as the official NCCPA content blueprint, with a full explanation after every question.

No. State licensure is a separate administrative process handled by your state medical board once you're NCCPA-certified, and it varies by state, but it does not change PANCE exam content, which is national and identical everywhere. This test covers PANCE exam content only.
The PANCE includes 300 multiple-choice questions, delivered in 5 blocks of 60 questions each over a single-day testing session.
Yes. NCCPA allows retakes, though there are waiting periods and a limit on total attempts. Focused practice on your weaker organ systems is the fastest way to improve for your next attempt.
