The SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) is used by private and independent schools across the U.S. for admissions decisions. The Middle Level (grades 5-7) and Upper Level (grades 8-11) share the same structure: 3 scored sections plus an unscored Writing Sample and an unscored Experimental section.
The unscored Writing Sample and Experimental section are not included in this practice bank since they are either subjectively graded or don't count toward your score, matching how TestReadyUSA scopes every category: only objectively gradable, scored content.
Because the SSAT's Verbal section moves quickly and tests specific formats (synonyms and analogies) that most students haven't seen before, practicing the exact question types, in the same proportions as the real test, builds both vocabulary and pattern recognition ahead of test day.

About the real test
The Middle and Upper Level SSAT (grades 5-11) has three scored sections: Quantitative (Math, 50 questions), Reading (40 questions), and Verbal (60 questions, split between synonyms and analogies), used by private and independent schools for admissions decisions.
Verbal moves fast, don't overthink synonyms
You get roughly 30 seconds per Verbal question. If a synonym doesn't come to you in a few seconds, eliminate the obviously wrong options and move on.
Verbal is the largest scored section
60 of 150 scored questions are Verbal, more than Quantitative (50) or Reading (40) individually. Strong fundamentals in arithmetic, basic algebra, and geometry still pay off across the whole test.
Analogies test relationships, not vocabulary alone
Figure out the exact relationship between the first pair of words before looking at the answer choices, then find the pair with the same relationship.
